Perfect Face

Rameses II

Transported in same way

by sleds and boats

as at Stonehenge

over 200 miles

One may wonder not

about Sun and Moon firstly

but about how his skin

could become that smooth

His looks that gracious

his smile that young

his goatee that tied

his headdress that blue and yellow

How the granite continues

into an adolescent body

shape—strong shoulders

on slender torso

To lose its face to sanctity

from perfection of features.

Green and golden

it sits down

it stands out

in high front legs of arms

Extending its body

decreasing its head size

which needs nose and earrings

to remain focus of attention

And its eyes lie deep

missing its precious stones

of irises drifting on

watery transparencies

On closer view let’s explain

the beetle on its forehead

could give rebirth

and its necklace

Protection and healing

just above wedjat-eye

profile to its lower chest

disappearing from view

Like the ravens you saw

at Stonehenge awe.
